Xinhua Hospital

Founded in 1958, Xinhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine is the first comprehensive hospital designed and built by Shanghai since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Over the past 60 years, it has developed into a Grade III Class A hospital with a complete range of pediatric and adult disciplines and distinctive features. Its outpatient and emergency department ranks among the top municipal hospitals in Shanghai all year round, and it is capable of providing patients with care throughout their entire life cycle, from birth to age 100 and beyond.
In 2015, Xinhua Hospital officially established a clinical research center, collaborating closely with the University of Ottawa Health Sciences and the Harvard Medical School. By bringing together doctors, clinical epidemiologists, clinical pharmacists, and statisticians, and adhering to international scientific standards and ethical guidelines, the center has established a collaborative network for clinical research, thereby enhancing the quality of clinical research projects.
Ten disciplines, including general surgery, cardiovascular surgery, pediatric surgery, emergency medicine, otolaryngology and head and neck surgery, dermatology, pediatric respiratory medicine in pediatric internal medicine, traditional Chinese medicine pediatrics, laboratory medicine, and clinical pharmacy, are listed in the national key clinical specialty construction projects. Nine provincial and ministerial-level diagnosis and treatment and rescue centers, including the Neonatal Screening and Genetic Metabolism Department of Shanghai China Genetic Medicine Center, Shanghai Pediatric Surgery Clinical Medicine Center, Shanghai Critical Maternal Consultation and Rescue Center, Shanghai Critical Neonatal Consultation and Rescue Center, Shanghai Prenatal Diagnosis Center, Shanghai Childhood Hearing Disorder Diagnosis and Treatment Center, Shanghai Neonatal Congenital Heart Disease Screening and Diagnosis Center, Shanghai Rare Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center, and Shanghai Childhood Rare Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center, as well as eight diagnosis and treatment centers of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, are located in Xinhua Hospital.
