Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center
The Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center is a budget management unit of the National Health Commission and a directly affiliated hospital of Fudan University. Established on March 1, 1931, it is the earliest tertiary Grade A oncology hospital in China and the only one in Shanghai, integrating medical treatment, education, research, and prevention.
The hospital comprises two campuses, namely the Xuhui Campus and the Pudong Campus, and is highly integrated with the Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Hospital. It has been approved to establish the Fujian Hospital, a national regional medical center, and is collaborating with the Xiamen Municipal Government to jointly build the Xiamen Hospital, as well as with the Minhang District Government to jointly establish the Minhang Campus. The hospital strives to forge a new pattern of one hospital with multiple campuses, pursuing homogenization development.
The hospital boasts 2 key disciplines recognized by the Ministry of Education, 6 national key clinical specialties, and 3 key clinical disciplines recognized by the Ministry of Health. It is also affiliated with the Shanghai Quality Control Center for Pathology and Radiotherapy and serves as the chair unit of the Shanghai Anti-Cancer Association. The hospital is equipped with a national drug clinical trial institution and possesses platforms such as 3 Shanghai Key Laboratories (breast tumor, pancreatic tumor, and radiation tumor) and the Shanghai Clinical Medical Research Center for Pathological Diagnosis. Furthermore, it has established a Precision Oncology Center and a Cell and Gene Therapy Center
In 2024, the hospital's outpatient volume will be 2.3 million, inpatient volume will be 170000, surgical volume will be 76000, and radiotherapy volume will be 410000, providing attentive service to the vast number of cancer patients. 1211 patients were discharged from proton heavy ion therapy throughout the year, with the highest number of treatments per device in the world. With the unremitting efforts of the whole hospital, the latest statistics show that the overall 5-year survival rate of malignant tumor patients in our hospital is as high as 71.8%, leading the country and comparable to the level of developed countries.
