The Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, formerly known as "Bethel Hospital," was established in 1920. The hospital has continuously developed its academic construction level. It is a supporting institution for the National Stomatology Center and the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Oral Diseases. The hospital boasts three national key disciplines, including oral clinical medicine, plastic surgery, and orthopedics, with oral basic medicine being a nationally supported discipline. The hospital also has 15 national clinical key specialties, including orthopedics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, endodontics and pulp disease, periodontics, prosthodontics, ophthalmology, plastic surgery, orthodontics, oral mucosal disease, interventional medicine, otolaryngology and head and neck surgery.

In terms of international cooperation, our hospital is a unit of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh's Head and Neck and Oncology Training Center, a unit of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS) Oral Oncology Surgery and Reconstructive Training Center, and a unit of the International Society for Craniofacial Internal Fixation (AOCMF) Craniofacial Branch Training Center. We have established the first internationally certified anesthesia nursing education base in China and have also been designated as a Cardiovascular Emergency Training Center by the American Heart Association.

Our hospital's plastic surgery department is currently the largest plastic surgery medical center internationally and the largest medical education and research center for plastic surgery domestically. Our oral and maxillofacial surgery department has reached an internationally leading level, and our various dental diagnosis and treatments have achieved a domestically leading level, with some even reaching an internationally advanced level. Our orthopedic and spinal surgery departments hold a dominant position domestically. Our ophthalmic and orbital surgery department, as well as ophthalmic tumor treatment, have reached a nationally leading level. Our otoneurology and skull base surgery department has consistently ranked among the top three in the country in its subspecialty field in recent years. Our assisted reproductive center has the highest average age of infertile women treated among all assisted reproductive centers nationwide. In terms of cardiovascular intervention therapy, holmium laser enucleation of the prostate, peripheral vascular disease treatment, hernia and abdominal wall surgery, pathological obesity surgery, and stroke intervention therapy, we are at the leading level in the city.
